NIGMS Names Acting Director

The National Institutes of Health have announced that Dr. Judith Greenberg, Ph.D., will serve as acting director of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, effective July 1.  Current NIGMS Director (and ASBMB President-elect) Jeremy Berg has stepped down to join the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh.  Dr. Greenberg has been at NIGMS since 1981, having directed the Division of Genetics and Developmental Biology since 1988, and previously serving as acting director from 2002-2003 before Dr. Berg was appointed as director.  Dr. Berg stated his approval of the appointment of Dr. Greenberg, suggesting that she would do “a fantastic job.” Meanwhile, the NIH will continue its search for a permanent NIGMS director.
