Update on NIH activities during the shutdown

The U.S. government shut down last night due to a lack of compromise on a spending plan for the beginning of fiscal 2014. Since some facets of agencies, like animal care at the National Institutes of Health, need to continue, agencies need to have plans about how they will function during the shutdown. While the NIH has been slow to release many specifics, we are beginning to learn more about how the agency will operate in the absence of FY14 appropriations. Today, the NIH published this document giving a few more details on what activities will shut down and which won’t. While this is not an extensive list, it does provide more information than previous posts from the NIH and the Department of Health and Human Services.
