Are raises for postdoctoral fellows on the way? Department of Labor changes overtime rules.

Last night, the Department of Labor issued a new rule on overtime pay.  Effective December 1, 2016, the criteria under which employees will be eligible for overtime pay will be: The salary threshold for eligibility for overtime pay will rise from $455 per week to $913 per week ($47,476 per year). A recent paper published in the FASEB Journal presents data demonstrating the population of postdoctoral scholars at degree-granting institutions peaked in 2010 and has been declining through 2013. These data are derived from the National Science Foundation’s annual Survey of Graduate Students and Postdoctorates.
